Lafayette Square

Love the color patterns in the mansard itself.  Houses on Lafayette near the Highway 44 on-ramp.

Cinq etats!

Yes, badmansard now features the flattest rooflines from 5 states (MO, ARK, IL, WI and CA)!  My dear friend Erika recently visited from Madison, Wisconsin.  She brought with her some wonderful artisanal cheeses and this photograph of a mansard on Madison's west side.

This mansard is quite pleasing to me.  I like the green and the alternating square/oval pattern on the roof.

What happened ici?

What happened here?  Things did not go so well for this sad little commercial mansard on HIghway 70.  Looks like maybe the mansard was an add-on to an existing and maybe older brick building.

Merci Reader Mike!

Thank you reader Mike for a photo of this awesome Chesterfield bad mansard.  I wonder what's in the mansard flanks?  Looks like a pair of baby mansard houses that were sucked into quicksand.

Again with the shingles- those just never work out well here in St. Louis.  The humidity (and shade I'm guessing from the trees) cause them to rot.

Thanks again!  Submit your bad mansards to badmansard@me.com

Pourqoui?

What is is about highways that spawns bad mansard apartment complexes? This one is facile to see from Highway 70 on the way to the airport.

Note the near perfect right angle up on the roof.  That's NOT the way it's supposed to be.

Go Greek! Delta Tau Bad Mansard

Down round the corner, here on Rollins street...

I am so sorry to make fun of the mansard roof line at the Delt house at Mizzou.  A few of my friends married Delts and they are nice guys.  BUT!  the mansard is bad.  There seems to be a Greek bad mansard on every college campus.

About this photo.  I was in Columbia in court and went to visit a dear friend during lunch.  As I drove down Providence I remembered the bad mansardness of the Delt house, made a quick left turn and stopped in front of my old sorority house and took the picture.
