Walking Dead Mansard
Check it out. A mansard money shot on The Walking Dead! Here's Maggie doing guard duty in the Hilltop Community. I think "Barrington Hall" isn't a real house but a fake movie-construction house, which explains a lot about the style and proportions of the mansard.

Norway!
So excited my friend Richard sent me some Norway mansards. Great stuff. Richard travels a lot and sends me mansard pictures from all around the world.

Shelter Island, NY
An anonymous mansard hunter shared with me this mansard in Shelter Island, NY. Amazing! It's a little cottage with a balcony and walk-out. Love it. I have to admit, this Missouri girl wasn't very familiar with Shelter Island but I'm glad to see this little sliver of mansard paradise. Thank you, anonymous mansard hunter.

October in Carmel, Indiana
This past weekend, I took Gus and his sister to Indianapolis for Gus' hockey tournament. I was so excited to find the Monon trail by the rink. The Monon is much like the Katy trail in Missouri - a railline converted to running/biking trail.
Speaking of Monon, Depauw University and Wabash College in Indiana battle annually for the Monon Bell. My grandfather was the coach at DePauw and had an impressive Monon win record.
Found lots of cute Craftsman homes in Carmel and some big ol' mansards.

More Monon. And more Japanese horsetail, please. We don't use near enough of it here in Missouri. Love it here. |

My neighbor's mansard part 2
One of the joys of ownership of a proper Italianate mansard circa 1880 is its annual upkeep. My great neighbors to the south recently had to do a lot of work on their mansard as featured on this blog in October 2015. Here is the finished product. Quite beautiful! It also costs a fortune, as in the same cost as a mid size sedan, as we are learning. Bravo to Mr and Mrs z. Beautifully done.

I wish my alley were this much fun!
This was definitely the best, albeit first, official alley party I have attended. 3800 block Juniata and Connecticut.

Finally!
In plain sight and yet so far away! This house is visible from Highway 270 northbound but I've never got off the highway and actually taken a good picture. At long last, while taking the girls to lacrosse practice at DeSmet high school, I was able to stop and take a proper picture. And, bonus, homeowners were having a garage sale!

Things are heating up in downtown St Louis
I have worked downtown for more than 20 years and I think this may be the first time I've seen this kind of hot barrel on top of a manhole. Interesting.

Epiphany
I think I've said it before on these pages but I love Epiphany. In my mind it is the transition point from Christmas season to Mardi Gras season. Also, my second daughter was baptized on epiphany and for that it is also special.
