Kids in Soulard say the darndest things

Mommy, I could either use the bathroom in our house or I could just use one of those on the corner.

Says my son who asks everyday if he can use one of the porta potties set up on our block for Mardi Gras.

You know it's Soulard Mardi Gras when...

The whooping and hollering party people have descended into Soulard once again.  It's a constant stream of "WHOOOOOOOO-OOOOOO" and shuffling feet and clanking beads.  You know it's Mardi Gras season when you ask your husband,

"honey, could you come down stairs and look at this drunk girl on the sidewalk across the street?  I can't tell if she's hurt, asleep or talking on the phone."

She was sitting hunched over in the tree lawn and very, very drunk.  John was going to ask her if she needed help but just then she stood up, brushed the snow off her and stumbled off.  I couldn't see her and she was therefore not my problem.

A lesson I will teach my children:  Never, ever let your friends leave a bar alone and always stay together.

Mansard Rendezvous

So the next time you find yourself chilling and boozing at the Rendezvous Room on Vandeventer  in Midtown, gaze across the street at these beastly mansards.  I've seen a lot in the 4 years I've been authoring bad mansard.  But I have never seen the mansard part of the roof done in what appears to be plexiglass?  Are these buildings undergoing rehab and the plexi is part of the process?  Is the third floor going to be a greenhouse?  I am so confused.

I guess I'll have to go hang at the Rendezvous room to stare across the street and find out for myself.  As for the Rendezvous Room, I found this review on yelp.

If you're looking for a new place to get some cheap drinks, throw some e-darts and jam out  to some old Keith Sweat songs, it's worth a look.

I think you can also get your car detailed while you drink.  The Rendezvous Room and these mansards are at Vandeventer and Clayton Road in Midtown.  It's the "little" part of Clayton Road that runs behind Goodwill and then into Forest Park.

Vert

Benton Park mini green giant.  I found the photo of this gem buried in my iphoto.  I think I was saving it for Christmas and forgot about it.

Sorry I've been a little slow to post lately.  If you're a fan and want to know what's been going on in my life, check out my 63104mom tumblr.  The link is to the right.  I try to update it every day with pics, quotes and opinion.

Finally, could someone please tell me how to re-size the header picture?  I know it's too large but I can't figure out how to downsize it.  If you're saying to yourself, "isn't badmansard's husband an award winning designer?  Couldn't he do it?" the answer would be I haven't asked him.  Every time he sits down at by macbook he loses his mind. "Why haven't you updated your operating system?  How come there are 102 items on your desktop ?  It's a mess.  You're keyboard is filthy.  What's with the bad typeface on badmasansard?  The kerning is terrible!  Oh my god. Do you know what color correction is?  What, did you take this picture with one of the kids' cameras?  It lacks depth."  And his number one complaint, "You cannot leave this many applications open."  So I guess I'm too scared to ask him =)

Hotlanta!

An Atlanta, Georgia bad mansard sent by Richard S.  Study it a bit.  Can you see it?  It's a little hard to see.  In this bulky study of gray, brown and green is a tiny splash of blue and red.  It's a kid's swing hanging from the tree.  Swings say a lot about a neighborhood.  If they're hanging from a tree that means you live in a neighborhood with trees mature enough to handle a swing.  And everyone knows* big trees are awesome.

I don't find this mansard to be quite so bad.  The lot is nice and roomy.  The window proportion is pleasing and the trees soften everything.  I almost wouldn't mind standing the front yard and pushing a small child in the swing.

*Phaedra/Real Housewives of Atlanta reference.
